Garus Gololo, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, has pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to force George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, to discipline his political allies over Benue State politics.
Gololo made this statement on Sunday during a press conference in Kaduna.
He accused Akume of starting the situation for his own personal gain and urged President Tinubu to intervene before it got out of control in Benue.
He urged the SGF to release Governor Hyacinth Alia so she can focus on providing the state’s citizens with the benefits of democracy.
Gololo charged the SGF to enable the governor to serve eight years as well, rather than assuming the role of godfather to Alia, after reminding him that he had served eight years as governor.
“The reason we’re holding this press conference is so that, as a party chieftain, we can take action before something goes wrong,” he stated.
“The governor’s rejection of Akume’s younger wife’s request to become Speaker of the Benue House of Assembly set off the whole crisis!”
Last Monday, the Benue State National Assembly caucus, which operates under the APC platform, charged Alia with managing the state government like to a parish.
The NASS caucus believed to be Akume’s followers also accused Governor Alia of marginalizing APC members and acting “dictatorially” in handling the affairs of the state.
The leader of the caucus and Senator representing Benue North-West, Senator Titus Zam, had at a press conference stated that the governor’s tendencies could make the party to lose subsequent elections in the state.
Zam claims that Akume, who has been mediating to ensure that things have returned to normal, has received multiple reports about the issue.
