UK prevents Nigerian students from bringing their families

On Monday, January 1, the UK Home Office declared that it has begun enforcing its policy prohibiting Nigerian and other international students from obtaining study visas and bringing their family with them.

This was revealed in a post on the defunct Twitter platform, X.

However, according to the Home Office, the move will only not affect students on government-sponsored scholarships or those engaged in postgraduate research.
“We are totally dedicated to observing a significant reduction in migration. New international students will no longer be permitted to bring family members to the UK as of right now. Students on government-funded scholarships or engaged in postgraduate study will be excluded, according to the Home Office.

Recall that in May 2023, the United Kingdom put in place a law to stop Nigerian students and others studying in the UK from bringing family as dependents except under specific circumstances.
