Oscars 2024: Nigeria’s selection fails to make cut for Int’l feature film

The prospect of a Nigerian film winning the International Feature Film Oscar at the 2024 Academy Awards has been shattered as the nominee for the prize did not make the cut.

The winner of the Sundance Festival, “Mami Wata,” has been nominated by the Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) to compete in the 96th Academy Awards’ International Feature Film (IFF) category.

The film, however, fell short after the release of the shortlisted films from 15 countries that made the cut.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the shortlists for the award on its page.

Films listed are:

Bhutan, “The Monk and the Gun”
Armenia, “Amerikatsi”
Denmark, “The Promised Land”
France, “The Taste of Things”
Finland, “Fallen Leaves”
Germany, “The Teachers’ Lounge”
Iceland, “Godland”
Japan, “Perfect Days”

Mexico, “Totem”
Morocco, “The Mother of All Lies”
