Along the Lekki Phase 1 corridor, unlawful gates that have been permanently closed are being taken down by the Lagos State Government. Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, made this news on Saturday through a formal statement.

The statement emphasized the reasoning behind this move by mentioning the protracted traffic jams that locals traveling through Lekki had to deal with. The state’s haphazard installation and widespread use of gates, which have a detrimental effect on the aesthetic appeal of the surrounding area and unnecessarily disrupt traffic on main thoroughfares, were blamed for the congestion.

Wahab clarified that the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources’ Enforcement team is leading the removal effort. Theophilus Oji Road, Osaro Isokpan Road, Abike Sulaiman Road, Ben Okagbue MBA Road, Olubunmi Rotimi Road, Olanrewaju Ninalowo Road, Dele Adedeji Road, Abayomi Sonuga Road, Siji Soetan, and Rasheed Alaba Williams Roads are among the roads that are intended to have gates removed.
