Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Chelsea, has pushed Noni Madueke to step up and compete in order to make more appearances this season.

Madueke moved from PSV Eindhoven to Stamford Bridge earlier in January for a reported sum of about £29 million.

So far under Pochettino, the winger has not been able to make a name for himself as a vital player.

The 21-year-old has made 20 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, scoring twice.

Prior to Chelsea’s Premier League match against Wolves on Sunday, Pochettino discussed Madueke with reporters during his pre-match press conference.

“I believe that he was wounded and had some issues right from the start of the season, after which he was not active.

“There is an extreme amount of competition for Noni; there are just too many participants in that field. He ought to compete and raise his game, in my opinion.

“I believe he was hurt at the time, but now that he’s healed, he might play in the upcoming games.”
