Tinubu disregarded Wole Soyinka’s advice to not seek the presidency
Prominent Nigerian dramatist Prof. Wole Soyinka has said that President Bola Tinubu disregarded his recommendation to not seek the office. When Soyinka paid Tinubu a courtesy call at his Lagos residence, he claimed to be checking up on the President and his spouse, who had disregarded his counsel. During what he called a “embarrassing” visit, the literary great claimed to have given the President a seven-point agenda. “I had a seven-point agenda when I came here. And we had a pretty in-depth conversation about those things,” Soyinka said to reporters following the meeting. “It’s actually a humiliating visit because I went to see him last time to try to talk him out of running for office. “I asked Atiku to kindly get off the ground so that kids could run. We last met approximately five years ago at that time. I decided to check on him after he disregarded my counsel. I came to wish him and his wife a happy Christmas and to see how they were enduring Nigeria,” he said.
