Bayo Onanuga: If Emefiele were in China, she would face a firing squad

The Presidency has claimed that Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, would have been executed if he had been from China, through President Bola Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Onanuga responded to the Special Investigation on CBN and Related Entities, Chargeable Offences report, which accused Emefiele of misappropriating funds during his tenure. Unauthorized bank account openings and illicit deposits in overseas banks were reported in the report. Onanuga underlined that the report’s actions would be viewed as high treason in China and would have dire repercussions.
