Luis Suarez, a striker from Uruguay who has played for Barcelona, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, and Ajax, will join Inter Miami in 2024, the Major League Soccer team announced on Friday.
Next month, Suarez will turn 37. He has four Liga crowns, a Champions League championship with Barcelona, and league titles with Ajax and Atletico.
He joins a Miami team that also includes Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Lionel Messi, his former Barcelona teammates.
Suarez declared, “I’m thrilled and eager to take on this new challenge with Inter Miami.” “I’m eager to get going and prepared to work hard to realise my goal of winning more championships with this outstanding team.
“I have hope for what our common ambition may accomplish as a team. As I wear Inter Miami colours and look forward to getting back together with amazing friends and players, I will give it everything I have to make these amazing supporters happy that I have heard so much about.
After making 53 appearances for Gremio last season, Suarez was voted Best Player and Best Striker in the Brazilian division. He scored 26 goals and assisted 17 others.
David Beckham, a former player for Manchester United and England and current co-owner of Inter Miami, was ecstatic to get Suarez.
“Having a player of Luis’ calibre and enthusiasm for the game join our team makes us very happy,” Beckham stated. “We are excited to watch him play on the pitch as he joins a team that is motivating the next generation.”
Additionally, Suarez inspired Uruguay to win the 2011 Copa America title.
World-class striker Luis Suarez is a welcome addition to Inter Miami, according to managing owner Jorge Mas. “Luis is an intense rival whose desire to succeed embodies the qualities we look for in our players.”
During 283 games with Barcelona, the Uruguayan striker scored 195 goals and added 113 assists.
He won the League Cup four times while playing for Liverpool, and in 133 games with Atletico Madrid, he netted 82 goals in 83 appearances.
