Certificates of return are given by INEC to 16 members-elect of the Plateau Assembly

16 candidates for the Plateau State House of Assembly received certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday.

The Court of Appeal ruled that the results of the elections held on March 18 were invalid, and as a result, the members-elect were proclaimed the winners.

Of the 16 members-elect, 15 belonged to the All Progressives Congress (APC), while one was a Labour Party member, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The Plateau INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Oliver Agundu, stated that the exercise complied with the Appeal Court’s orders.

According to Agundu, the commission was instructed by the Appeal Court to provide certificates of return to the legislators, recognizing them as the legitimate winners of the elections.

He wished the incoming lawmakers well as they settled in to serve the state and congratulated them on their accomplishment.

Chief Rufus Bature, APC State Chairman, said that the Appeal Court victory further strengthened the electoral process and deepened Nigeria’s democracy.

Bature advised the legislators to be generous in their victory and warned them not to make fun of the state’s other political parties.

“Plateau’s interests shall always take precedence. Democracy is perceived by us as being about ourselves rather than about others.

He urged the participants to choose Plateau as their starting point for all of their future endeavors.

Sunday Naah, the newly elected member for Jos North West, stated that he understood the high standards held by the public and promised to do everything in his power to support the development of both his constituency and the state as a whole.

Naah promised his supporters that he will enact good laws to lessen the hardships of the residents of Jos North West Constituency.
