All political players in Enugu State have been urged to unite and work toward the state’s development by the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
The apex Igbo socio-cultural group declared this in reaction to the Friday ruling of the Supreme Court which supported Governor Peter Mbah’s victory.
The national president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, expressed the group’s pain in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday. He said that the legal battle over the Enugu guber election had lasted for several months and had cost millions of naira.
In recalling the Ohanaeze youths’ plea to Barr Chijioke Edeoga, the Labour Party’s candidate for governor, not to drag Mbah to court, Okwu said, “we also urged him not to push the matter further when Governor Mbah recorded victories in both the Tribunal and at the Appeal Court.”
“We presented the argument in light of the financial stakes in Nigerian lawsuit and the accompanying disruptions it causes to the ruling administration.
But since the LP candidate has used up all of his legal options, we implore him to accept the governor’s offer of friendship.
“We think that now is the right moment for him to answer that clear appeal for the sake of the state as a whole. This is not the first time the governor has invited him and other opposition members to join him in advancing the state.
“The growth and development of Enugu is what matters now; it should be of utmost importance to any lover of the state; everyone cannot be governor at the same time.”
“Now that every obstacle and distractions have been removed,” the Ohanaeze youth president asked the governor to fully concentrate on providing good dividends to the people of Enugu State.
He went on, “We have no doubt in Governor Peter Mbah’s ability to perform beyond the expectations of the citizens. The people of Enugu State are desirous of good governance.”
