The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has removed maps, diagrams, and pictures from test items intended for the administration of the 2024 UTME for candidates with impairments in keeping with its inclusion philosophy. This clue was revealed in Abuja at a virtual conference with the country’s commissioners of education by the registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.
In his speech, the Registrar stated that the Board would endeavor to guarantee that questions for blind candidates in the 2024 UTME no longer include diagrams, pictures, or maps, and that these questions have the same difficulty indices as other test items.
In addition, the participants received a briefing from the Registrar regarding the concerns that have been voiced regarding the inadequate consideration given to the situation of candidates with disabilities other than blindness and deafness during the registration and administration of the UTME. He stated that the purpose of these unique clauses is to guarantee that no candidate with a disability faces discrimination because of their circumstances.
The speaker went on to state that the current development aligns with the decisions made during the recently concluded “National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria,” which was hosted by JAMB.
